I started working with Roger at the beginning of the offseason for footy with the aim of gaining as much lean muscle as possible for the upcoming season. I felt as if I’d previously struggled to compete with bigger and stronger competition at senior footy after the transition from juniors and under 19s.
The difficult balance of maintaining aerobic fitness while gaining strength and muscle was something that I struggled with in previous years as I feared gaining excessive fat and therefore feeling heavy at training and on my runs.
Immediately I felt in safe hands under Roger’s guidance.
With myself and my strength and conditioning managing the training loads, Roger was able to manipulate my caloric, macronutrient, and supplement intake to fuel my performance and facilitate muscle growth throughout the preseason. This was individualised and tailored to my needs and training load incredibly precisely. Roger’s periodisation of my nutrition was incredible.
Roger’s knowledge, expertise, diligence and meticulous planning were evident immediately. Roger left no stone unturned with his prescriptions and gave me full confidence in trusting the process. The caloric surplus prescribed was incredibly accurate.
The results that came from Roger’s work left me and others around me nothing short of astonished.
I had the best period of training of my life, my strength dramatically improved in the 10-12 week gaining phase. Weights that I was previously doing 1 rep for became sets of 6-8 reps for multiple sets. My fast gains in strength turned heads from my peers, with many asking questions about what I have been doing.
Roger’s work left me feeling like an animal in the gym, something I hadn’t experienced before. During this phase, I was able to gain roughly 6kg of weight along with those strength increases. The surplus lead to a steady and controlled rate of gain over that period and allowed me to let go of any ounce of body dysmorphia that I experienced beforehand. Both running and lifting felt great, and I was able to train at great intensities, even though I was carrying extra weight while trying to gain muscle. I felt amazing.
Performance was through the roof and at an all-time high.
From here, we needed to prepare for the season and trim down to make sure I was at an optimal weight that I could maintain. The deficit that Roger prescribed me was also more than accurate, and I was amazed at how much food I was eating and the rate that the excess fat was dropping per week. In only 4 weeks, my body composition was at its all-time best, I shedded over; 5kg of fat with ease after already being quite lean.
I rarely felt hungry during this period and was able to maintain all my strength gains while increasing my aerobic capacity. Energy levels never dipped and I felt even better at training during this period. Upon returning to training I felt as if I was able to outmuscle and use the newfound strength again players that I had struggled against in previous years. The gains in the gym from Roger’s nutrition transferred to onfield success and gave me incredible confidence moving forward into the season.
Never in my life have I felt this big, this strong, this fast and this powerful.
On the eve of the season - I feel a million bucks.
Roger has opened my eyes to the power of fuelling for performance and how good you can truly feel when adequately fuelled under his direction. The best thing I ever did was have full faith in Roger’s science-based approach. Roger is incredibly personable and understands the demands of a 21-year-old who has a social life and the balancing act that presents. At no point did I feel restricted on social outings, and I was able to achieve my goals (and then some), all while maintaining my social health.
The mental aspect of Roger’s work can also not be understated. The feelings towards my body image are at an all-time high. I feel confident and have no anxiety around diet culture that I previously had but was unaware of. There is so much I can say about Roger and the impact that he has had on me. He’s made me fall in love with training/footy again, and I can’t thank him enough.
